Tiruchanur, Nov 18, 2012 (P.R.O): The spacious, clean and tidy Padmasarovaram-the temple tank in the abode of Goddess Padmavati, turned into a sea of devotees on Sunday with tens of thousands of pilgrims hailing from across the country participating in Panchami Theertham, the most important ritual of the annual Kartheeka Brahmotsavams of the presiding deity of Tiruchanoor.

The religious occasion of Panchami Theertham marks the auspicious birth day and celebration of the manifestation of Sri Padmavati Devi in a Golden Lotus in Padma Sarovaram on Sukla Panchami of Kartheeka month.

Snapana Tirumanjanam(celestial bath with milk, honey, turmeric, coconut water and turmeric) to Sri Sudarshana Chakrattalwar and the processional deity of Goddess Padmavathi  has been performed in a colourful manner in the specially decorated mandapam in the temple tank. While performing puja as per Pancharatra Agama, the priests adorned the deities with specially made Cardamom, Kuruveru(a type rivergrass), American rasp berry, cherry garlands which mesmerizes the devotees.

After the end of the hour-long ritual, Sri Sudarshana Chakram was taken into Padma Pushkarini for a holy dip at around 11.45am in the holy Makara Lagnam. Thousands of devotees who have been waiting since morning for this sacred moment took a holy dip in the temple tank along with Chakrathalvar even as the entire premises echoed with the chanting of divine Govinda Nama.

TTD Chairman Sri K Bapiraju, EO Sri LV Subramanyam, JEOs Sri P Venkatrami Reddy, Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, CVSO Sri GVG Ashok Kumar and other officials, dignitaries were also present.

Meanwhile TTD made elaborate arrangements for Panchami Theertham, which went off smoothly marking the conclusion of the nine-day annual temple festival. Thousands of pilgrims have been served with free breakfast and meals in Tholappa Gardens, Aiyyappa Temple and at SV High School on the occasion.


On the auspicious occasion of Panchami Teertham at Tiruchanoor on Sunday, the Sare from Tirumala temple reached Tiruchanoor via Kanakamma Satralu, Govinda Raja Swamy temple.

The rituals commenced with the grand procession of the traditional “Sare”(gift from Lord to his beloved consort comprising turmeric, kumkum, tulsi etc.) during the wee hours from Tirumala to Tiruchanoor. Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju carried the “Sare” over his head and reached Alipiri Padala Mandapam on foot and handed over the same to Tirupati JEO Sri P Venkatrami Reddy.

From Tirupati, the sare was carried to Tiruchanoor over temple elephant. TTD Chairman Sri K Bapiraju, EO Sri LV Subramanyam, CVSO Sri GVG Ashok Kumar and other temple officials were also present.
