3-week devotional camps for students

Tirupati , Apr 06 :

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to conduct three week long summer camps for students who have completed Intermediate, and train them in spiritual scriptures like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Gita and the Bhagavatha.

The TTD executive officer, Mr L.V. Subramanyam, during the ‘Dial Your EO’ programme, addressed devotees from Tirumala.

He said: “We have decided to distribute three lakh books of Shataka Padyalu to students.

I appeal to teachers present across the state to come forward to extend support to the TTD in teaching the values embedded in Telugu literature to students,” he said.

He said that the TTD has decided to provide free breakfast and meals at Galigopuram to pedestrian pilgrims who are trekking the Alipiri footpath route.

“This will come into effect in a couple of weeks,” he said.

The TTD will also consider the provision of introducing laddu prasadam for householders who perform the Kalyanotsava seva in Srinivasa Mangapuram temple.

The executive officer said that the TTD has decided to perform 150 Srinivasa Kalyanams in a year and a cluster of celestial marriages have been planned in the US to take place between April 28 and June 2.

“There are proposals to conduct these marriages even in Mauritius, Canada, Japan, Singapore and Sri Lanka,” he maintained.

The TTD will construct temples of Lord Venkat-eswara and Goddess Padmavathi at Kanyakumari near the Vivekananda Rock Memorial at a cost of Rs 22 crore.

“The local committee has donated a vast piece of 4.5 acre to the TTD for this,” he said.

“To speed up the coin and currency counting activity in TTD, we have decided to utilise the services of retired or in-service bank or insurance employees and are also planning to give an opportunity to interested pilgrims,” he said.
